Deniz Ulaş Atlı
Born in Diyarbakır, Turkey, in 1992, Deniz Ulaş Atlı graduated from the Department of Fine Arts Education at Anadolu University. He has worked in secondary education and with disadvantaged communities. He currently lives and works in Mersin, Turkey, where he continues his artistic practice alongside his work as a teacher.
Atlı’s practice is centered on the human figure and its relationship to space. Rather than treating space as a representational setting, he approaches it as a psychological and existential condition.
In his paintings, the figure moves beyond the notion of a fixed subject, becoming an entity whose direction, position, and sense of weight appear to dissolve. Its boundaries gradually lose definition, while the distinction between figure and environment begins to disappear, creating a suspended and indeterminate field.
Atlı’s practice explores concepts such as movement, belonging, and identity not as fixed states, but through their processes of dissolution. His work questions the ways in which perception seeks stability and attempts to establish points of attachment within an increasingly uncertain visual space.
