Ahmet AGILLI

Born in Ankara in 1989, Ahmet Ağıllı graduated from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Çankırı Karatekin University in 2014. Based in Ankara, the artist continues to develop his practice from his studio, participating in various solo and group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works are held in a number of private collections.

At the centre of Ağıllı’s artistic practice are the subconscious, imagination, solitude, the banality of everyday life, and popular culture. Bringing together personal experiences and imagery drawn from childhood with the visual language of contemporary life, the artist creates a distinctive, dreamlike and at times utopian world.

Drawing inspiration from diverse forms of expression including Pop Art, collage, abstraction, mural and street art, Ağıllı combines different materials and techniques within his works. His dialogue between the real and the abstract creates a strong visual language through colour, imagery and layers. Spontaneity plays an important role in his creative process, alongside a desire to construct a more positive, liberated and alternative visual world in contrast to the monotony and routine of everyday life.

For Ağıllı, painting is not merely a profession, but also a means of self-discovery and a way of expressing his inner world. By reinterpreting shared images from personal memory and popular culture, his works invite the viewer into a visual experience situated somewhere between reality and imagination.
